it's your budget to help him in school. It's not a grant, not an inheritance...it is aid available to achieve his goals. That may be part of the issue, aside from the fact he is a kid of that age...alot of us, including myself, are dealing with that sense of entitlement. I am not one that condones that, and my kids know that. I would, and have, risked them making the move out to prove 'their point". 19 yr old moved out last summer, which she was perfectly entitled to do, but under duress, without a plan. I spoke to her like an adult and told her if she did this now, there would be financial consequences she couldn't recover from. She did it anyway, and now sees reality. The 3 younger ones have seen this, and get it. But sometimes, tough love is the answer.

Granted, in all reality, if 'the shit really hit the fan', I have her back.

But it sounds like your son may need to live without a net for a bit. Kids these days are weaker in fiscal responsibility, I think, then many of us that are now in our late 40's/50's...my 2 cents...good luck...not an easy problem to solve..

And as chumley states below, yeah...I would be 1000% behind "jerking a knot"
